Crowns (Caps) in Carrollton, Texas

toothWhen composite fillings cannot restore the structure of your teeth, your dentist may recommend porcelain crowns or caps. These caps cover the whole surface of the teeth and protect the structure. Crowns are not permanent so even though they last for a long period of time, they need to be replaced in the future.

This procedure is good for those individuals with decayed, broken or fractured teeth as well as those with large or fractured fillings. It is also good for those with a root canal on the tooth and for cosmetic enhancement.

Procedure Overview:

Two appointments are necessary to complete a porcelain crown procedure. During the first appointment, the dentist will take accurate molds for your custom crown. The professionals will also create a temporary mold in the area where the new crown will be placed. This temporary mold will stay for about two weeks until the second appointment. Placing the temporary mold involves numbing your tooth and cleaning the area. Afterwards, it will also involve checking your bite to ensure that the crown is properly placed.

During the second appointment, the dentist will remove the temporary mold, clean the area and place the new custom crown. You will receive further care instructions afterward.
